Today's Fact

A dead woman's recruitment drive came with an extraordinary signing bonus: your own body back.

MADELYNE PRYOR'S SISTERHOOD PUT PSYLOCKE BACK IN HER ORIGINAL BODY — A RESURRECTION RITUAL OFFERED AS A RECRUITMENT PERK!
The Featured Fact

When Madelyne Pryor returned as the Red Queen in Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #508–509 (2009), she staffed her new Sisterhood of Mutants with a promise no recruiter had ever made: join, and she would resurrect a dead loved one of your choosing. The proof of concept was performed on one of the X-Men themselves — Psylocke.

Betsy Braddock had spent two decades living in the body of the assassin Kwannon, ever since the two women's minds were merged and swapped. Madelyne's Sisterhood obtained the corpse of Betsy's original British body, and the Red Queen's ritual transferred Psylocke's soul out of the borrowed form and back into her own — undoing, in one ceremony, one of the most tangled body-swap sagas in X-Men history.

The favour was not charity. A restored Psylocke was meant to be a grateful Psylocke, and the Sisterhood immediately turned its prize recruit against the X-Men in a raid on their San Francisco base. Betsy eventually broke free of the Sisterhood's influence, but she kept the body — Madelyne's recruitment perk permanently rewrote her teammate's anatomy.

Why It's Obscure

Everybody remembers the Goblin Queen hunting a body of her own. Almost nobody remembers the night she handed somebody else theirs back.

2009
The perk, in writing — Each Sisterhood recruit was promised the resurrection of one deceased person of her choice; Psylocke's restoration was the demonstration model.
Revanche
The other half of the swap — The ritual used the recovered corpse of Betsy's original body, the same body once occupied by Kwannon under the name Revanche.
Two decades
A 20-year storyline, closed by a villain — The Braddock–Kwannon body swap began in 1989; it took the X-Men's enemy, not the X-Men, to reverse it.
The catch
Gratitude, weaponised — The restored Psylocke was promptly fielded against her own team before she shook off the Sisterhood's control.
