MADELYNE PRYOR

Today's Fact

Hell got a street address in New York, a brass plaque, and eventually its own superhero team working out of the lobby.

MADELYNE PRYOR OPENED A LIMBO EMBASSY IN MANHATTAN — THEN STAFFED IT WITH A TEAM CALLED THE DARK X-MEN!
The Featured Fact

When the Dark Web crisis ended, the demonic tower Chasm had teleported into Manhattan did not vanish — it stayed, and was formalised as the Limbo Embassy, with Madelyne Pryor installed as its ambassador-queen. Marvel's own history of the character notes the arrangement plainly: the X-Men and the Krakoan government helped her establish the embassy after she called off her assault on the city and imprisoned Chasm in Limbo.

The embassy was built for what Madelyne called the rejected ones — mutants and strays with nowhere else to land. Then Orchis attacked the Hellfire Gala and exiled most of mutantkind from Earth, and the refuge became a headquarters: in Dark X-Men Vol. 2 #1 (2023), written by Steve Foxe, Madelyne assembles her own X-Men inside it, with Havok — Alex Summers — as her right hand.

The roster reads like a risk assessment nobody signed: Archangel, Gambit, the demon Azazel, the vampiric Emplate, the sadistic Zero, Albert the Wolverine android, and the young mutant Gimmick. A woman once denied resurrection on Krakoa for being a clone ended up running the team that carried the X-Men's name through their darkest exile — out of a hell-tower with a mailbox.

Why It's Obscure

An embassy, a sanctuary and a superhero HQ share one very flammable address: the chapter of Madelyne's life summaries rush past on the way to older scandals.

The plaque
Diplomacy, demon-style — The tower remained in Manhattan as the Embassy of Limbo after Dark Web, giving the Goblin Queen formal standing on Earth; the gallery's second image is the page that says so, plaque and all.
The mission
For the rejected ones — Madelyne pitched the embassy as refuge for the unwanted, a pointed mission statement from a woman the Quiet Council had ruled insufficiently real to resurrect.
The roster
Dark X-Men (2023) — Havok, Archangel, Gambit, Azazel, Emplate, Zero, Albert and Gimmick: Foxe and artist Jonas Scharf's Fall of X team, headquartered at the embassy.
The reconciliation
Jean's gesture — The embassy exists because Dark Web ended with Jean Grey extending grace instead of vengeance, urging Madelyne toward leadership — the clone and the original rewriting their feud into an alliance.
