Today's Fact
Reborn after Ragnarok, Loki did not bother growing a new body — he simply took the one that was waiting for somebody else.
When Thor rebuilt Asgard above Broxton, Oklahoma and called his people back from death, the Asgardians returned one by one inside mortal vessels. One warrior never came home: Sif, whose reborn body was intercepted before her spirit could reach it. The figure who arrived in that body instead, in Thor Vol. 3 #5 (2008), was Loki — dark-haired, red-clad and entirely unapologetic about the theft.
Sif herself had been shunted into the frailest vessel on the board: an elderly hospital patient named Mrs. Chambers, a woman already dying of what her doctors believed was terminal cancer. Loki hid her there with enchantments that kept her beyond the sight of Thor and even all-seeing Heimdall, then visited her ward carrying a mirror that showed the old woman her own true, young face — a face she could describe to no one, because the borrowed body could not make anyone believe her.
The stolen shape was also a shield, and Loki knew it. Any blow Thor landed on the false Sif would damage the real Sif's only road home, so the trickster wore his hostage into council chambers and Cabal meetings alike. Thor finally broke the arrangement in Thor Vol. 1 #602 (2009), freeing Sif's spirit with a repaired Mjolnir — a rescue that came too late for Mrs. Chambers, who died as her unwilling guest departed.
Why It's Obscure
Plenty of shapeshifters borrow a face for an evening; Loki kept this one for years of publication time and used it as armour.
