Today's Fact
For a few pages in 2014 the hammer agreed with the one opinion Loki had waited centuries to hear from anyone.
During the AXIS event, a spell cast over Genosha flipped the moral compass of everyone caught in it: heroes turned cruel, villains turned conscientious, and Loki woke up as the most earnest do-gooder in the fight while Thor became a swaggering brute spoiling for blood. Loki and the Enchantress lured the inverted Thor through a portal to the Moon to keep him away from the main battle.
Waiting on the lunar surface was Mjolnir itself, abandoned there since Thor had been judged unworthy during Original Sin and could no longer lift it. The inverted Loki reached down knowing the enchantment would either crown him or leave him to die at his brother's hands — and the hammer came up. Empowered as a Thor in his own right, he beat the astonished Odinson down and savoured telling him exactly who the worthy one was now.
The glory lasted only until the inversion was undone. A second spell restored everyone's true nature, Loki's borrowed worthiness evaporated with his borrowed conscience, and the hammer stayed shut to him again. Thor afterwards dismissed the whole episode as one more of Loki's lies, which suited history fine: the single afternoon Loki was genuinely worthy is an afternoon almost nobody in his own world believes happened.
Why It's Obscure
Worthiness, it turns out, can be spell-checked — and the correction deleted Loki's finest hour as efficiently as any lie he ever told.
