In Walt Simonson's celebrated run, Loki reached for the throne of Asgard with the strangest weapon in his arsenal: while he schemed at home, he used the mystical sword of Surtur and Asgardian engines to reach across worlds and rewrite his brother's body. Thor, standing on Earth, shrank, greened, and hopped.
Frog Thor kept every scrap of the god inside the amphibian — his mind, his courage, and eventually his hammer. Stranded in Central Park, he fell in with a pond community led by a frog named Puddlegulp, and promptly went to war, leading the frogs against an invading army of rats like a very small, very damp field commander.
When Thor at last forced his restoration, he left something behind for his ally: a sliver chipped from Mjolnir itself. Puddlegulp — once a human named Simon Walterson — lifted the fragment, gained a miniature hammer of his own, and became Throg, the Frog of Thunder. The whole improbable episode runs through Thor #364–366 (1986).
Why It's Obscure
A coup attempt measured in inches — Loki's pettiest victory accidentally created a second thunder god.
