LADY BULLSEYE

Today's Fact

Retirement in Spain lasted exactly as long as it took the Hand to find the address and send its politest murderer.

LADY BULLSEYE MURDERED THE KINGPIN'S NEW FAMILY IN SPAIN — JUST TO SEND DAREDEVIL A MESSAGE AND DRAG FISK BACK TO WAR!
The Featured Fact

Wilson Fisk had done the unthinkable: he retired. Grieving Vanessa, he settled on Spain's Costa da Morte, fell for a local woman named Marta, and was teaching her children Adriana and Jaime English when the Hand's Plan B arrived in Daredevil Vol. 2 #116 (2009). Lady Bullseye directed the attack that murdered Marta and both children, then had Fisk poisoned, paralysed and run through with swords for good measure.

She left him alive on purpose, and told him exactly whose fault it all was: Daredevil's. The cruelty was a delivery mechanism. The Hand had offered Matt Murdock its leadership and been refused, so Plan B manufactured the one weapon guaranteed to hurt him, a Kingpin with nothing left to lose, aimed at Hell's Kitchen and told precisely who to blame for the ashes of his second life.

It worked with horrible efficiency. Fisk burned Marta's house, flew back to New York, and walked straight into the war the Hand wanted, eventually standing before Lord Hirochi himself. Lady Bullseye had not been sent to Spain to kill a retired crime boss. She had been sent to reload him.

Why It's Obscure

Retirement on the coast of death is only the start of it.

Costa da Morte
Retirement on the coast of death — Fisk settles where Vanessa once loved to travel, builds a quiet life with Marta, and teaches her two children English and Japanese.
Plan B
The leadership refused, the weapon built — Daredevil declines the Hand in Daredevil #115, so Lord Hirochi's faction activates its backup: provoke the Kingpin instead.
Issue #116
Two swords and a message — the Hand murders Marta, Adriana and Jaime, poisons and paralyses Fisk, and Lady Bullseye informs him that Daredevil is to blame.
The return
Reloaded and aimed — Fisk burns the house, returns to New York as planned, and later kills Hirochi himself when finally brought before the man who ordered Spain.
