Today's Fact
Twenty-three years in the grave, one botched blood ritual, and a hunter who begged for the death his family stole.
Sergei Kravinoff died by his own hand in 1987, satisfied at last, and stayed dead for over two decades — an eternity by comic-book standards. His widow Sasha refused the peace he had chosen. Through The Amazing Spider-Man #634–637 (2010), the Grim Hunt, she hunted spider-powered victims across New York, building toward a blood ritual that demanded Spider-Man himself as its price.
The Kravinoffs never got the genuine article. Peter Parker's clone Kaine, wearing the Spider-Man costume, took Parker's place on the altar, and the sacrifice went forward with the wrong blood in the rite. Sergei rose anyway — wrong. He named the flaw himself: the corrupted revival had saddled him with what he called unlife, an eternal curse in place of a clean resurrection.
The proof arrived when his daughter Ana drove a blade through his heart and Sergei simply recovered. By the terms of the botched ceremony he could now die only by Spider-Man's hand, and the man who had once hunted the spider for sport began hunting him for an ending instead — raging at the family whose love had condemned him to keep living.
Why It's Obscure
The Kravinoffs rehearsed the ritual on Vladimir first, and the lion-thing that came back should have warned them.
