Today's Fact

The Guardians of the Galaxy keep house inside a severed Celestial head called Knowhere — and in 2018, Venom #4 named the god whose first blade took that head off.

KNOWHERE IS THE SEVERED HEAD OF THE CELESTIAL KNULL BEHEADED WITH THE VERY FIRST SYMBIOTE!
The Featured Fact

In Venom Vol. 4 #4 (2018), the god Knull tells Eddie Brock how the war began. The Celestials had brought their Light of Creation into his endless void, and in that light Knull saw his own shadow for the first time. He plunged his hand into it and pulled out a blade of living darkness — the first symbiote — and with it he decapitated the Celestial sent to keep watch over him.

The other Celestials banished Knull — and the severed head — deeper into the void, and the head became his forge. There he tempered the crude shadow-blade with cosmic energy drawn from the dead giant's brain, finishing the weapon the universe would come to fear as All-Black, the Necrosword: the same blade Gorr the God Butcher would one day lift from Knull's fallen body and carry on his crusade against the gods.

And the head itself never left the story. Writer Donny Cates confirmed in July 2018 that the skull in Venom #4 is the one that, worn down over the eons, becomes Knowhere — the mining colony and crossroads of the galaxy that the Guardians of the Galaxy call home. Every market stall and docking bay in Knowhere sits inside the remains of Knull's first kill.

Why It's Obscure

A forge inside a skull, a cameo five years early, and a prison that named a species.

2013
He debuted in disguise — the black-armored god who falls out of the sky in Thor: God of Thunder #6 (2013) went unnamed for five years, until Cates revealed in 2018 that Jason Aaron's mystery figure had been Knull all along.
The forge
The weaknesses were born at the anvil — Venom #4 ties the symbiotes' twin vulnerabilities, fire and high-frequency sound, to that forge: the heat inside the Celestial's skull and the ringing hammer-blows that shaped All-Black.
Klyntar
The species is named for its prison — when the freed symbiotes rebelled, they buried Knull inside a planet built from billions of their own bodies and called it Klyntar, their word for "cage" — the name readers had taken for the symbiotes themselves.
Carcosa
His sigil came off a TV screen — the red dragon-and-spiral emblem on Knull's chest was modeled on the Spiral of Carcosa from True Detective, an occult doodle dragged from a crime show into cosmic horror.
