Today's Fact
One Kang got cut off from his own century, so he did the most Kang thing possible: he incorporated.
A glitch in the timestream split Kang into divergent counterparts, and one splinter found himself stranded in the modern era, cut off by a firewall of time with no road back to the future. Sleeping for two thousand years to catch up with his own century did not appeal to him. He needed an empire he could start immediately.
So the conqueror put on a suit and became Mister Gryphon, chief executive of Qeng Enterprises. As revealed across Avengers Vol. 6 #0 and All-New, All-Different Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2015–2016), Gryphon's company bought the former Avengers Tower from a cash-strapped Tony Stark, and the new landlord supervised the cleanout of the heroes' own headquarters.
The real estate was never the point. Before the sale closed, Gryphon secretly planted loyalty protocols inside the Vision during the synthezoid's last visit to the Tower, and he set out to recover three pieces of a Chitauri amulet that could restore his time travel. A Kang who cannot conquer the future will happily settle for buying the present.
Why It's Obscure
Conquest, rebranded as a corporate acquisition.
