Today's Fact
Checked against independent sources — the issues are cited below.
In the 31st century, teenage Nathaniel Richards was a bullied schoolboy whose throat a classmate named Morgan nearly slit. His adult self, Kang the Conqueror, intervened at that exact moment in Young Avengers Vol. 1 #2 (2005), showed the boy centuries of conquest to come, and offered him the chance to kill Morgan early and skip a year of hospital recovery.
The tour horrified its audience. Young Nathaniel rejected the monster holding the brochure, turned the neuro-kinetic armor Kang had lent him against its owner, and jumped backward in time hunting for Avengers who could help him refuse his own biography. He arrived just after Avengers Disassembled, with the team dissolved and the mansion in ruins.
Inside the wreckage he found the destroyed Vision and a fail-safe roster the android had stored for a successor generation. Nathaniel rebuilt himself as Iron Lad — the name a tribute to Iron Man — and recruited the teenagers on that list, founding the Young Avengers in Young Avengers Vol. 1 #1 (2005) as a team whose founding mission was, in effect, one member's future self.
Why It's Obscure
Most villains manufacture their nemesis by accident. Kang manufactured his on purpose, as a motivational speech.
