Today's Fact
No armour, no battlefield, no world at stake. Just two of the strongest men alive, in ordinary clothes, in an ordinary bar, and a teammate who decided to let it happen.
In Uncanny X-Men #183 (1984), Cain Marko is off duty in the most literal sense: civilian clothes, a quiet bar, a drink. Sharing the room, also in street clothes, is Colossus — Piotr Rasputin, drowning a broken heart after his relationship with Kitty Pryde collapsed, and already well past his limit.
A drunken bump becomes an insult, and an insult becomes the kind of fight bars are not built to survive. The two strongest men in the building trade blows in their shirtsleeves while the furniture gives up around them — the Unstoppable Juggernaut's entire war effort that evening, aimed at a heartbroken colleague.
The coldest part is in the corner. Wolverine and Nightcrawler are present, fully able to intervene, and Logan chooses not to. He lets the brawl run as a lesson for Piotr — meaning one of Cain Marko's most famous defeats-by-exhaustion was supervised, deliberately, by an X-Man acting as referee.
Why It's Obscure
A demon-powered avatar and an armoured X-Man, reduced to the oldest venue in comics: last orders.
