Today's Fact
After Generation X, Jubilee chased a dream of her own in Los Angeles — and Hollywood handed her a stack of stereotypes and one creep too many.
When Generation X wound down, Jubilee moved to Los Angeles with her former teammate Skin — Angelo Espinosa — to pursue her own ambition for once: acting. After years of following Xavier's dream, she wanted a career that was hers, and an agent named Kristoff was happy to take her on.
The work Kristoff found her tells its own story. Jubilee landed only brief cameos and commercials in stereotypical Asian girl roles, and when Skin warned her about both the parts and the man, she brushed him off and accused him of jealousy. The bigger role Kristoff finally produced was a sexy Asian prostitute — and standing on set in costume, Jubilee started asking herself whether that was the image she wanted to sell.
Kristoff answered the question for her by hitting on her, touching and kissing her on set. Jubilee gave him a full taste of her mutant fireworks powers, turned her back on the movie business on the spot, went home and apologised to Skin for how she had treated him — the whole episode playing out in X-Men Unlimited Vol. 1 #34 (2001).
Why It's Obscure
The X-Men's youngest veteran once quit show business the way only a mutant can: by making her exit interview explode.
