JUBILEE'S LONG-LOST AUNT HOPE WAS A CYBERNETIC ASSASSIN — AND SHE BLEW UP HER OWN HOUSE TO GET OUT OF THE BUSINESS!
The Featured Fact

Benched by Cyclops and ordered to take a break from active duty, Jubilation Lee got a phone call almost nobody saw coming: a paternal aunt she had never met, Hope Lee, had surfaced in Los Angeles and wanted to adopt her. Hope was wealthy, polished and generous — a mansion, a butler named Brad, and a fresh start at Payton Noble High School, where Jubilee was made a peer adviser and promptly started counselling other teenagers through crises of their own.

The respectable surface lasted exactly as long as it took trouble to follow Jubilee home. Hope's fortune had not come from anything legal: she was a professional assassin trying to retire, and her former employers objected to the resignation. When gunmen came for her during a visit from Wolverine, Hope sent Jubilee, Logan, her friend Shane Shooter and Brad out of the house — then detonated the building herself rather than be taken.

Police found no body, because the explosion had not killed her. A jogger later spotted a wisp of smoke in a nearby park and found Hope alive, one leg exposed as gleaming cybernetic machinery. The aunt who looked like an escape from the X-Men's world of violence turned out to be built out of it — literally, in part — and her survival stayed secret from the niece who went home to Westchester grieving her.

Why It's Obscure

A solo series, a secret aunt, and a family trade Jubilee never applied for.

2004
The other solo title — Robert Kirkman's six-issue Jubilee series is where Hope Lee debuts, years after Jubilation had been written as an orphan with no family left to call.
The call
Out of nowhere — Hope and her brother had fallen out before Jubilee was born, and she was in China when he and his wife were murdered, which is why the two had never met.
Brad
The staff — Hope's household ran with a butler, Brad, who ended up fighting alongside Wolverine when the old employers came collecting at the house.
Boom
Her exit strategy — rather than surrender or run, Hope cleared her own home of everyone she cared about and blew the building up around her pursuers.
Chrome
The reveal — the blast that should have killed her instead exposed the truth: at least one of Hope Lee's legs is a cybernetic replacement, hardware no society aunt was ever supposed to need.
