Today's Fact
At Metro College, the person who came closest to Jean Grey's double life was an ordinary student with a very unordinary older brother.
After Jean Grey graduated from Xavier's school, her parents enrolled her at Metro College, where fellow student Ted Roberts became her closest campus friend — close enough that Scott Summers and Warren Worthington III both burned with jealousy over the hours she spent with him.
Ted's standing worry was his older brother Ralph, a former Stark Industries scientist who had built himself a cobalt battle suit. In X-Men Vol. 1 #31 (1967), Ralph's mind buckled inside the armor and the Cobalt Man rampaged until the X-Men shut the suit down — with Marvel Girl fighting in plain view of the one civilian who knew her face best.
Ted added it up. He never announced his conclusion, but his hints landed, and when kidnappers later grabbed Ralph, Ted telephoned Jean and asked her to alert the X-Men — a request that only makes sense from a man who knew exactly whom he was calling. Jean, through the end of the storyline, neither confirmed nor denied a thing.
