Today's Fact
The most awkward armor Tony Stark ever built was powered by a present from the very friend it was designed to stop.
Thor, then reigning as king of Asgard, gave Tony Stark an enchanted Asgardian crystal as a research gift, hoping its immense energy could become a clean power source for humanity. Tony studied the jewel fragment — and quietly filed away what else its Odin-touched energy might do.
During the Slokovia crisis in Iron Man Vol. 3 #64 (2003), with Thor's worshippers under threat and war looming over the border, Doctor Doom pointedly suggested that a reactor built on that crystal could let an armor stand against a god. Tony took the bait and built the Thorbuster, a Destroyer-styled suit with Type X repulsors that drank in Asgardian energy instead of merely enduring it.
It worked — briefly. The enchanted reactor let Iron Man absorb Thor's power and stop Mjolnir dead in mid-air, a feat no merely mechanical suit could claim. Thor still won, tearing the reactor out with his bare hands, furious that a gift meant to serve mankind had been turned into a weapon aimed at its giver.
Why It's Obscure
A friendship stress-tested by one repurposed present and a helpful nudge from Latveria.
