Today's Fact

An alien named Zius hunted the one power that could expose his hidden worlds, and Reed Richards answered by handing that power to the last person anyone expected.

JOHNNY STORM TRADED HIS FIRE FOR HIS SISTER'S INVISIBILITY — AND GALACTUS TOOK THE INVISIBLE BOY AS HIS HERALD!
The Featured Fact

In Fantastic Four Vol. 3 #520 (2005), the alien Zius threatened Earth unless the Invisible Woman surrendered — her power was the one thing that could pierce the cloaking technology hiding refugee worlds from Galactus. Reed Richards secretly used a device to swap his wife's powers with her brother's, so Johnny Storm woke up invisible and Sue Storm woke up flammable.

The trick worked too well. Zius departed fooled, but Galactus destroyed Zius's ship in orbit and claimed the newly invisible Johnny as his newest herald, flooding him with the Power Cosmic. The Human Torch, rebranded by circumstance as the Invisible Boy, was ordered to scout out the very hidden worlds Zius had died protecting.

Johnny refused the menu. Instead of leading Galactus to populated planets, he stalled by telling the Devourer the story of Galan, the mortal Galactus had once been, and held out until the Fantastic Four and Quasar arrived. In issue #522 he poured his borrowed cosmic power into a cannon that blasted Galactus back into humanoid form — and the universe's most famous hothead ended his herald career by talking.

Why It's Obscure

He got the job because nobody could see him coming, then kept it by refusing to deliver a single world.

Zius
A threat with fine print — The refugee worlds stayed safe only while no invisible eye could find them, which made Sue Storm a target simply for existing.
#520
The swap — Reed's device traded the siblings' gifts in secret, a family decision Johnny learned about by turning transparent.
Invisible Boy
A herald nobody saw — Galactus wanted a scout who could slip past cloaks, and the Power Cosmic made Johnny mighty in every way except visually.
#522
Talking down a god — Johnny's delaying tactic was a biography: reminding Galactus of Galan bought the cavalry enough time to arrive.
