Today's Fact
A four-foot macaque in a stolen suit once ran a gauntlet of two of Marvel's loudest fighters and walked away from both.
In the 2010 Deadpool arc usually called the monkey business storyline, Deadpool was hired to take out Hit-Monkey and discovered the job was far above his pay grade. The little assassin fought Deadpool to a standstill and left him alive, judging that his heart was not truly in the killing.
Spider-Man swung into the same mess after mistaking the situation, and Hit-Monkey handled him too — evading the web-slinger, returning fire with unsettling precision, and escaping a hero whose spider-sense normally ends fights before they start. Two marquee fighters, one very small monkey, no clean wins for the humans.
The arc, written by Daniel Way with art by Carlo Barberi, ran across Deadpool Vol. 4 #19-21 in 2010 and remains the clearest demonstration of why other assassins in the Marvel Universe quietly fear a monkey in a tailored suit.
Why It's Obscure
A macaque holding his own against a spider-sense and a healing factor deserves more than a footnote.
