Today's Fact
The world's smallest assassin picked a fight with the wrong Wolverine in a Romanian forest — and before the night ended they were assaulting the same castle on the same side.
In Old Man Logan Vol. 2 #14 (2016), opening the 'Monster War' arc, Logan followed a missing-person trail into the forests of Romania: Jubilee had vanished, leaving her son Shogo behind, and her last known location sat in vampire country. The ambush came out of the trees without a word of warning — Hit-Monkey, in S.H.I.E.L.D. service, went straight at the old mutant, and Logan's reward for spotting him a half-second early was the chance to hurl the macaque bodily into a tree.
Warwolf called his S.T.A.K.E. squad down before the misunderstanding ate anyone. The Howling Commandos were in Romania on a parallel grief: Dracula had recalled his vampires home and taken their own Vampire by Night, just as he held Jubilee. Two rescues, one castle — so the monkey who had opened the evening as Logan's attacker signed on for the frontal assault while Logan took the sewers.
The castle kept its own counsel. Jubilee, deep in Dracula's thrall, played the grateful captive long enough to walk Logan into reach, and the Count stepped out of the shadows and sank his fangs into the old man's neck to close the issue. Hit-Monkey's side of the plan — noise, gunfire and a door kicked in on schedule — had worked perfectly; it was the quiet rescue that had been a trap all along.
Why It's Obscure
Assassins are usually the problem in a Wolverine story; in Romania the assassin was the cavalry, all four feet of it.
