Today's Fact
The quietest assassin in Marvel took a team job — and a second, secret job inside it.
When Negasonic Teenage Warhead joined Deadpool's mercenary venture, the Mercs for Money found a new teammate waiting at their base, sent without notice by S.H.I.E.L.D.: Hit-Monkey. The official story, which Deadpool swallowed, cast the macaque as a liaison between the team and the agency. The real assignment was surveillance — the monkey was there to monitor Negasonic.
The roster then changed hands. Domino assembled her own Mercs — Gorilla-Man, Machine Man, Masacre and Deadpool himself — to rescue Negasonic from Umbral Dynamics, which had been using her to power the radioactive Presence. In Deadpool & the Mercs for Money Vol. 2 #5 (2016), after the rescue, Hit-Monkey and Negasonic both signed on under Domino's leadership.
It is a perfect cover, when you think about it. A spy who files no written reports, attends every briefing, and is underestimated by every person in the room — including, apparently, the intelligence agency's own liaison story. S.H.I.E.L.D. did not send the Mercs a mascot; it sent them an auditor with a gun.
Why It's Obscure
A one-panel personnel decision in a Deadpool spinoff quietly made the assassin a double agent.
