Today's Fact

After the slaughter of his troop, the young macaque began seeing the spirit of the dead assassin his clan had sheltered — a spectral guide who pointed him toward the men behind the massacre, including the politician Hideki Hiyashi and, behind him, General Kato. For years that ghost was the closest thing Hit-Monkey had to a conscience, a commander and a friend.
The catch arrived in an unlikely diagnostician. When Hit-Monkey crossed paths with Deadpool again — in Deadpool Vol. 2 #61 (2012) — the mercenary revealed that he could perceive the phantom too, and credited that unsettling privilege to his own fractured mind. If the ghost were a genuine spirit, Wade reasoned, a sane witness would have been able to see it as well.
The logic landed where bullets never had. The apparition dissolved, and Hit-Monkey tore off his suit and bounded away from the assassin's life entirely — at least for a while. His next employer turned out to be a S.H.I.E.L.D. monster squad, which suggests the retirement functioned as more of a sabbatical.
Why It's Obscure
His deadliest advisor may never have existed — and it took Deadpool to deliver the diagnosis.
