HIT-MONKEY CAME TO SPIDER-MAN'S FUNERAL TO SAY SORRY — AT A FUNERAL DEADPOOL HAD FAKED!
The Featured Fact

New York's assassins were turning up dead in Deadpool #19 (2010), and the trail led to a killer who only ever targeted killers. Pursuing his next name, Deadpool himself, the macaque tracked Spider-Man to a meeting between the two heroes — and in the crossfire that followed, one of his bullets struck Spider-Man instead of the mercenary he had come for.

The stray shot changed the hunter. Hit-Monkey broke off the fight, plainly troubled that he had wounded a man who was no assassin, and slipped away while Deadpool recovered from wounds of his own. Remorse is a rare weakness in his profession, and Deadpool — a professional exploiter of weaknesses — built an entire funeral around it.

Deadpool stole a Spider-Man costume, injured himself, and let New York believe the wall-crawler was dead. The mourner he wanted duly appeared: Hit-Monkey attended the funeral of the hero he thought he had killed, come to pay his respects. Deadpool burst out of the casket to finish him, Spider-Man revealed the guns had been sabotaged, and the resulting explosion in Deadpool #21 (2010) let the grieving monkey vanish — no body, no arrest, just an assassin who had shown up to apologize.

Why It's Obscure

An assassin with a strict code is a familiar idea. An assassin who attends his victim's funeral to mourn a man who is not even dead is something else entirely.

The stray bullet
Wrong target, real guilt — the macaque's code covers assassins only, and wounding Spider-Man by accident visibly shook him mid-fight.
The costume trick
Deadpool plays corpse — Wilson fakes Spider-Man's death at public expense, counting on a monkey's conscience to deliver his killer to a casket-side ambush.
The mourner
He actually came — of every figure in New York who might attend that funeral, the one Deadpool was surest of was the hitman who believed he had caused it.
Bent barrels
Sabotaged out of mercy — Spider-Man had secretly ruined both fighters' guns, so the casket confrontation could only end in an explosion, not another killing.
2010
No body found — the official outcome of the whole affair is an empty blast site: the remorseful assassin walked out of his own ambush.
