Today's Fact

The world's most accurate archer once won a forced death-duel with his eyesight already leaving him, one missed shot at a time.

HAWKEYE BEAT HIS BROTHER WHILE GOING BLIND — THEN NEEDED HIS BONE MARROW TO SEE AGAIN!
The Featured Fact

The injury was one Clint Barton hid. Fighting the new Ronin — Alexei Shostakov — alongside Mockingbird and Black Widow, Hawkeye took a heavy blow to the head and assured everyone it was nothing. Then his arrows started missing. In Hawkeye: Blindspot #1–4 (2011), by Jim McCann and Paco Diaz, Tony Stark, Donald Blake and Steve Rogers examined him and delivered the verdict together: the damage was progressive, and the greatest marksman alive was going blind.

Baron Zemo chose that moment to weaponize Clint's family. He had Barney Barton trained by the dying original Trick Shot, dressed him in the name Trickshot, and staged a duel to the death between the brothers. Clint fought it with his vision failing — and won anyway, beating the brother who had been built specifically to outshoot him, in the dark his own eyes were making.

The rescue came from the loser. In custody, Barney agreed to the bone marrow transplant that could save his brother's sight — and attached one condition, stated without a trace of sentiment: he would do it only so that he could battle Hawkeye again in the future. Clint got his eyes back on a villain's terms, with a rematch written into the prescription.

Why It's Obscure

Blindspot is the rare Hawkeye story where the threat is not a better archer — it is the slow deletion of the one sense his whole legend stands on.

The blow
A head wound, waved off — Clint's insistence that he was fine lasted exactly until the Lethal Legion fight, when the misses started showing up in public.
The diagnosis
Three Avengers, one verdict — a billionaire engineer, a god's mortal form and a super-soldier walk into an exam room; the prognosis is blindness.
The duel
Aim outliving eyesight — Zemo's death match assumed a blinded Hawkeye was a finished one; Clint's muscle memory filed a formal objection.
The price
A rematch clause — Barney's marrow was never a peace offering. It was an investment in a future fight, and both brothers understood the terms perfectly.
