Today's Fact
A million years before the first motorcycle, vengeance still found a way to ride — it just needed a much bigger animal.
About a million years ago, a bright young caveman lived with a tribe too frightened of the snow to leave their cave. A stranger arrived, took command of the group, and then revealed what he was: a Wendigo, who devoured every member of the tribe except the boy, whom he spared and named Ghost. Alone in the cold and burning for payback, the boy met a talking snake that persuaded him to speak one name — Mephisto — and the bargain remade him as a Spirit of Vengeance, introduced in Avengers Vol. 8 #7 (2018).
Every Rider gets a ride suited to the age, and the Stone Age offered exactly one heavyweight option. Ghost befriended a woolly mammoth and imbued it with hellfire, becoming the first human ever seen mounted on an animal — other people of the era started calling him simply the Rider. Even his weapon kept the theme: his chain was fashioned from the bones of the Wendigo's victims, osteokinetic handiwork no chrome-and-leather successor ever matched.
Five years of hunting ended in a cliffside brawl that cost the mammoth its life, and Ghost's grief caught the attention of Odin and the Phoenix host Firehair, who recruited him into the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC. He fought a rogue Celestial beside gods and the first Black Panther, outlived replacement mammoths, and in the far later telling of that team's wars he finally burned himself to ash stopping a mystical plague meant to wipe out early humanity.
Why It's Obscure
Blaze got a chopper and Robbie got a muscle car; the original got eleven tons of mammoth and set it on fire.

The flaming mammoth is front and centre in all three shots — tusks alight on the Avengers #7 cover, and Ghost's burning skull above the animal in every frame.
