GHOST RIDER

When a new Ghost Rider roared out of a Cypress Hills junkyard in Ghost Rider Vol. 3 #1 (1990), readers met him as Danny Ketch, a teenager who touched a glowing gas cap with his wounded sister Barbara's blood on his hand and ignited. What neither Danny nor the audience was told at first was his surname's secret: Ketch was an adoptive name. Danny and Barbara were born to Barton Blaze and Naomi Kale — making Danny the younger brother of Johnny Blaze himself.

The family connection ran deeper than blood. The spirit riding Danny was identified as Noble Kale, a 17th-century ancestor of the Blaze-Kale line whom Mephisto had cursed into becoming a Spirit of Vengeance. A fragment of the Medallion of Power bound to the family line called that ancestral spirit forward in generation after generation, which is why the Ghost Rider kept recurring inside one haunted bloodline instead of choosing strangers.

Naomi Kale had spent her life trying to break the pattern, hiding her younger children with Francis Ketch to keep them beyond the curse's reach. It bought them a childhood, not an escape: Barbara's shooting put Danny's bloody hand on the enchanted motorcycle his mother had marked, and the ancestor answered. Johnny Blaze had sold his soul as an individual bargain; his little brother inherited the fire as a birthright nobody had disclosed to him.
