Today's Fact
Thanos did not merely train his adopted daughter and aim her at the Magus — he edited how the world looked to her while he did it.
When Thanos plucked the young Gamora out of time from her doomed people, the Zen-Whoberis, he raised her aboard Sanctuary as a living weapon against the Magus. Alongside the combat training and the technological enhancements, Marvel’s records note a quieter intervention: he subtly altered her perceptions so that she would not recognise the evil of the deeds she was being shaped to perform.
The tampering is the hidden hinge of her origin, recounted when Thanos finally revealed himself and his design in Warlock Vol. 1 #10 (1976): the deadliest woman in the galaxy was aimed at the Universal Church of Truth by a guardian who had tuned her conscience the way other men tune an instrument. Gamora had debuted a year earlier, in Strange Tales Vol. 1 #180 (1975).
The edit did not hold forever. Gamora grew into someone who questioned her master, defied him, and eventually stood against Thanos outright — which makes the altered childhood worse, not better: everything she later chose freely had first to be chosen against programming installed before she was old enough to consent to any of it.
Why It's Obscure
Her loyalty to Thanos is usually explained by rescue and gratitude — the perception edit is the darker machinery underneath both.
