Gamora Fact — November 4, 2026

Today's Fact

When Gamora returned for the biggest Marvel event of 1991, the woman under the green skin had, legally speaking, only just died in a car crash.

GAMORA CAME BACK FROM THE DEAD IN A STRANGER'S BODY — THE CORPSE OF A WOMAN NAMED BAMBI LONG!

The Featured Fact

Gamora's first death ended with Adam Warlock gathering the last spark of her consciousness into his Soul Gem, and for years her spirit lived on inside Soul World, the paradise pocket-realm within the gem, in the company of Warlock and Pip the Troll. It was a peaceful retirement for the deadliest woman in the galaxy — and it was only ever a waiting room.

When Thanos began assembling the Infinity Gauntlet, Warlock's plan to oppose him required bodies back in the real world. In The Infinity Gauntlet Vol. 1 #1 (1991), the three souls were projected into three people who had just died together in a car accident — and Gamora opened her eyes inside the body of a woman named Bambi Long, a total stranger.

The borrowed flesh did not stay borrowed-looking for long: Warlock's power reshaped the dead woman's form into a new version of Gamora's own, and later handbook-level accounts note she came out of the exchange stronger than she had been before her death. The Gamora of the Infinity Watch era is, quite literally, a resurrection wearing somebody else's history.

Why It's Obscure

Plenty of heroes return from the dead; very few return with a named civilian's paperwork trail attached to the body they are standing in.

Soul World

A decade on ice — Killed by Thanos, Gamora's spirit spent years inside the Soul Gem's inner paradise alongside Warlock and Pip before anyone needed her back.

Three vacancies

One car accident — The escape plan hinged on three freshly deceased strangers — Gamora, Pip and Warlock each took one, and Gamora drew Bambi Long.

Gauntlet #1 · 1991

Reshaped on arrival — Warlock's power rebuilt the borrowed body into Gamora's own likeness, so the swap is invisible in every panel that follows.

The upgrade

Stronger secondhand — Later accounts of the resurrection note the new body outperformed the original — the only Gamora whose rebirth came with a specifications bump.
