GAMORA BECAME THE VILLAIN REQUIEM — AND BEHEADED THANOS IN FRONT OF HIS OWN ARMY!
The Featured Fact

The mystery figure who stalked the Infinity Stones in 2018 did not announce herself with a speech. Requiem walked up behind Thanos on Chitauri Prime, while the Mad Titan addressed his assembled horde, and removed his head with a single swing of a sword carrying the Power Stone in its hilt. Only when Rocket shot the attacker's mask away during a later battle did the heroes learn who had done it: Gamora, in Infinity Wars #1 (2018).

Her motive was not conquest. A fragment of Gamora's own soul had remained trapped inside the Soul Stone's Soul World ever since her years in the Infinity Watch, and living divided had been quietly hollowing her out. Reclaiming every Stone was, in her reasoning, the only road back to wholeness — so she swapped Star-Lord a counterfeit Power Stone in a bar, took the real one for her blade, and opened her campaign by killing the father who raised her.

The beheading was only the overture. Requiem went on to seize the Stones and fold the universe in half in Infinity Wars, welding pairs of heroes into merged beings in a pocket reality called Warp World. The deadliest woman in the galaxy had spent a lifetime escaping the role Thanos built for her; in 2018 she finally outdid his worst atrocities in the name of getting her own soul back.

Why It's Obscure

She spent decades trying to kill her father. When she finally managed it, she was the villain of the story.

THE MASK
Requiem's identity stayed hidden through Infinity Wars Prime, so the reveal landed mid-battle, when a raccoon's lucky shot turned a new cosmic menace back into a missing friend.
THE SWAP
Before any blood was shed, Gamora palmed Star-Lord's genuine Power Stone and left him a fake, which means the Guardians were disarmed by sleight of hand before they knew a war had started.
THE MISSING PIECE
A soul divided since the Infinity Watch years explains the coldness that shocked her friends: Requiem was not possessed, she was incomplete, and she knew exactly which Stone held the rest of her.
