Today's Fact

Remy LeBeau's reflexes were always filed under 'very fast for a thief' — until a sheriff in Otherworld fired at his head and he simply took the bullet out of the air.

GAMBIT CAUGHT A SNIPER'S BULLET IN MID-AIR INCHES FROM HIS EYE — AND POURED ITS ENERGY OUT THROUGH HIS OWN BODY!
The Featured Fact

In Blightspoke, a lawless corner of Otherworld, Sheriff Gia Whitechapel put a bullet on a line for Gambit's head — and Gambit caught it. In mid-flight. Scant moments before it reached his eye, he snatched the round out of the air and dumped its kinetic energy harmlessly through himself, a feat of speed that sits closer to Quicksilver's territory than to anything in a card sharp's usual kit. (Excalibur Vol. 4 #22, 2021)

It was not a one-off flourish. Earlier in the same Excalibur run, Gambit had drained the energy out of an incoming missile in flight (Excalibur Vol. 4 #10, 2020) — the same principle pointed the other way: instead of putting charge into an object, he pulled the motion out of one.

Both tricks grow from the part of his mutation fans forget: Gambit subconsciously taps the potential energy around him and channels it through his own body, which is where his preternatural agility comes from. In Otherworld, surrounded by wild magic, that quiet background hum simply got louder — and a man who was already hard to hit became, briefly, impossible to shoot.

Why It's Obscure

Everyone knows the charged cards — the obscure part is that Gambit's power also runs in reverse, and that in Otherworld it made him fast enough to argue with ballistics.

Blightspoke
The sheriff's shot — Gia Whitechapel fired on Gambit at point-blank narrative range in Excalibur Vol. 4 #22, and her bullet never arrived.
#10 · 2020
The missile first — A year earlier in the same series, Gambit drained a missile of its energy mid-flight, proving the bullet catch was a pattern, not a fluke.
In reverse
Charge out, not in — Gambit's signature move adds kinetic energy to objects; these feats subtract it, leaving a speeding projectile suddenly holding nothing.
The quiet hum
Always on — Marvel's own profile notes Gambit subconsciously channels ambient potential energy into himself, the hidden engine behind his agility all along.
