Today's Fact

The X-Men's resident telepaths can read almost anyone on the roster — Remy LeBeau is the awkward exception, and the reason is humming inside his own skeleton.

GAMBIT'S OWN POWER JAMS TELEPATHS — HIS BODY RUNS A PERMANENT STATIC FIELD AROUND HIS BRAIN!
The Featured Fact

Gambit's mutation keeps his body permanently stocked with charged potential energy, and that charge has a side effect nobody put on his trading card: it throws off a constant field of static interference centred on his mind. A telepath reaching for his thoughts gets the psychic equivalent of a radio tuned between stations.

The field stopped being theoretical in Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #324 (1995), when Psylocke attempted to read his mind and LeBeau caught her at it, forcing the intruder back out of his own head. Marvel's official guide to his powers describes the same mechanism: the energy his body stores makes reading him a painful errand even for experienced psychics.

The interference can be deliberately cranked up — holding a freshly charged object close to his head thickens the static on demand. It is a shield, not a fortress: a telepath of Professor X's weight can still push through given time, but Gambit is just about the only non-telepath on the team whose head comes with built-in noise.

Why It's Obscure

Everybody catalogues the exploding cards; almost nobody mentions that the same battery makes his skull the hardest room on the team to eavesdrop on.

Always on
A standing charge — The static is not a trick he switches on — it radiates from the energy his physiology holds in reserve, day and night.
#324 · 1995
Psylocke, evicted — When Psylocke probed his thoughts in Uncanny X-Men #324, Gambit registered the intrusion and expelled her himself.
The boost
A card held close — Pressing a charged object near his skull intensifies the interference, turning a privacy screen into something closer to a locked door.
The limit
Noise, not armour — Determined high-end telepaths can brute-force their way in; the static buys discomfort and delay rather than true immunity.
