Today's Fact
The Devourer's first solution to his hunger was not a servant. It was a second Devourer.
Long before Norrin Radd ever raised a silver board, Galactus tried to manufacture help. In the infancy of the universe, shortly after his hunger first took hold, he constructed a sentient being in his own image and poured life into it — a creation later known across terrified star systems as Tyrant, first shown in Silver Surfer Vol. 3 #81 (1993).
Creator and creation were wired to the same fuel line: both drew power from the biospheric energy of living worlds, so every planet Galactus consumed quietly shrank the supply Tyrant could tap. Where Galactus fed because existence demanded it, Tyrant fed an appetite for dominion, subjugating worlds that surrendered and annihilating the ones that refused.
Galactus eventually confronted his runaway workmanship, and their duel wasted entire galaxies before the Devourer prevailed, stripped Tyrant of most of his might, and exiled the diminished tyrant to the far edge of known space. Eons of banishment ended when Tyrant resurfaced to kidnap cosmic heavyweights, and the saga only closed when the herald Morg turned the Ultimate Nullifier on him in Silver Surfer Vol. 3 #109 (1995).
Why It's Obscure
Everybody remembers the heralds who quit. Almost nobody remembers the prototype who had to be put down.
