Today's Fact

She woke from a coma inside somebody else’s powers and, within the hour, was using them in ways their owner had never once attempted.

BORROWING ICEMAN’S BODY FOR A FEW HOURS, EMMA FROST TRAVELLED THROUGH A RIVER AT THE SPEED OF THOUGHT — A TRICK ITS OWNER HAD NEVER IMAGINED!
The Featured Fact

Emma Frost spent months in a coma after the attack that destroyed her first school, her body kept in the X-Mansion’s medical unit. When a power surge ripped through the building, Bobby Drake — Iceman — was at her bedside, and the shock woke her straight into a telepathic reflex: her mind lashed out and landed in his body, beginning in Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1 #311 (1994) and paying off in issue #314.

What she did with borrowed cryokinesis startled even her. Fleeing the mansion, she froze a river’s surface solid to cut off pursuit, then went further: she mingled the molecules of Bobby’s ice form with the water itself, transferred her consciousness through it at the speed of thought, and re-formed a brand-new ice body miles downstream only seconds later. Along the way she reshaped the ice form freely and shrugged off damage that would have stopped its usual occupant.

The coda is pure Emma. When Bobby later demanded to know how she had unlocked so much of his potential in a single afternoon, she refused to teach him a thing — she mocked the mental blocks he had built for himself instead, insisting the only ceiling on his gift was the one in his own head. It remains the rudest, and arguably the most effective, lesson Iceman ever received.

Why It's Obscure

Teachers are usually judged by their students’ progress. Emma’s finest lesson was one she delivered by accident, in a stolen body, then refused to explain.

Uncanny #311
The surge — A short-circuit in the mansion wakes the comatose Emma, and her reflex telepathy swaps her mind into the body of the man checking on her.
Uncanny #314
The river run — Emma disperses Bobby’s ice form into river water, rides it as pure consciousness, and rebuilds the body miles away within seconds.
Borrowed form
Reshaped at will — In Bobby’s shape she alters the ice body’s form and absorbs punishment freely — improvisations he had never tried in years of using the same gift.
The refusal
No lesson given — Asked afterwards how she did it, Emma declined to explain and blamed Bobby’s own mental blocks — tough love, White Queen style.
