Of the four Frost children, Christian Frost was the eldest, Emma's closest sibling, and — for most of their lives — the one with no mutant gift at all. When their father Winston discovered Christian was gay, the boy's spiral into substance abuse ended in a suicide attempt, and Emma begged Winston to get him proper help. Winston promised rehabilitation and delivered something else entirely: a mental institution where his son was subjected to conversion treatments, as retold in Iceman Vol. 4 #1–2 (2018).
Years later Christian was released, and a worried Emma went to Frost House to check on him — only to be driven off by Winston himself, suddenly wielding psionic blasts no Frost patriarch had ever possessed. Suspicious, she recruited Bobby Drake, whose own history with an unaccepting family made him the one X-Man who might reach Christian, and together they got inside. In the house they found Winston's corpse. The “powerless” Frost had manifested after all: Christian's astral-energy abilities had erupted during a final confrontation and killed his father outright.
What Emma had fought at the door was Christian too. His shattered mind, unable to carry what he had done, had sculpted a lifelike astral projection of Winston to keep ruling and tormenting him — the abuser rebuilt as a haunting by his own victim's power. It took Emma and Bobby working through the projection to hand Christian back control of himself. Emma then took over the family company to rebuild beside her brother, and on Krakoa the discarded heir eventually stood at her side as the Hellfire Trading Company's White Bishop.
Why It's Obscure
The Frosts produced four mutants and classified the fourth as defective. He turned out to be carrying enough astral firepower to end the family patriarch.
