EMMA FROST SHOT HER OWN SISTER TO SAVE HER SCHOOL
The Featured Fact

Emma Frost's older sister Adrienne Frost was a psychometrist Emma's telepathy could not touch — sibling powers cancelling each other out, much like Cyclops and Havok. When Emma's school finances collapsed, she swallowed her pride and brought Adrienne in as co-headmistress of the Massachusetts Academy. It was the most expensive loan in X-Men history.

Adrienne outed the Academy as a mutant school, incited a riot among its human students, and planted bombs around the campus. In Generation X #70 (2000), student Synch (Everett Thomas) died stopping one of those bombs. Emma had already lost one class — the Hellions. She was not losing a second one the same way.

Knowing her telepathy was useless against Adrienne, Emma did the non-telepathic thing: she shot and killed her own sister, then hid the murder from her students and psychically wiped an investigating policeman. The killing was only clearly depicted later, in Generation X #75. When her students learned the truth, their trust shattered — and Generation X disbanded.

Why It's Obscure

Emma Frost has mind-wiped enemies, rivals, and entire rooms without blinking. Almost nobody remembers the time she skipped the psychic route — picked up a gun she had placed at her hip, and shot her own sister to save her school.

The sister
Adrienne Frost — psychometrist, former White Queen claimant, and the one Frost Emma could never read, predict, or psionically stop.
2000
Generation X #70 — Adrienne's bombs kill Synch; Emma confronts her sister with a gun she had placed at her hip earlier.
The cover-up
Emma hid Adrienne's death, mind-wiped a policeman, and inherited Adrienne's fortune — which she then used to fund the very school Adrienne tried to destroy.
The cost
Emma later admitted she was not sorry she killed Adrienne — only that she did not do it before Adrienne endangered her students.
