Today's Fact

Neena Thurman's superpower comes with a terms-and-conditions clause, and the clause is cardio.

DOMINO'S LUCK ONLY WORKS IF SHE MOVES — STAND STILL IN A GUNFIGHT AND SHE GETS SHOT LIKE ANYONE ELSE!
The Featured Fact

Domino's luck is not a shield, a blessing or a force field — it is a subconscious psionic talent that nudges random events inside her line of sight toward the improbable-but-possible outcome she needs: a gun jams, a ricochet finds the one useful target, a falling girder lands a foot to the left. But the field has a strict activation rule, and it is the reason Neena Thurman never, ever stands still: her luck is participatory. It only engages around an action she is actually taking.

The classic demonstration is a hail of bullets. If Domino simply stood in front of it and trusted her reputation, she would be shot dead like any other mercenary — the power offers no protection to a woman doing nothing. The moment she throws herself into motion, diving, weaving and returning fire, the field wakes up: shots thread past her by inches, her own bullets find gaps that were not there, and her cerebral cortex fires bio-electric pulses down her spine that steer her body through the one safe path at near-superhuman reflex speed.

The arrangement has a second catch her teammates learn the hard way — the field balances its books on whoever is nearby. Domino's good fortune is drawn from the probabilities around her, friend and foe alike, which makes standing next to the luckiest woman alive statistically one of the most dangerous postings in the mutant underground.

Why It's Obscure

Most powers fail when their owner is overpowered; Domino's fails when its owner is lazy.

The mechanism
Telekinetic nudges, not miracles — Domino's mind initiates tiny random phenomena in her line of sight, making improbable things happen and impossible things stay impossible.
The rule
Participation required — The field only works on actions Domino is engaged in; she must be dodging the bullets for the bullets to start missing.
The reflexes
Wired for the gap — As a byproduct, her brain sends bio-electric pulses along her spine, guiding her movements and sharpening her agility whenever the field is running.
The fine print
Luck is zero-sum nearby — Her probability field serves Domino alone; the odds it borrows can come out of a teammate's hide as readily as an enemy's.
