Today's Fact

Neena Thurman went looking for the mother she never knew and found her commanding the people sent to kill Neena's brother.

DOMINO SHOT HER OWN MOTHER TO SAVE HER BROTHER — THE MOTHER WHO LED A CULT OF ASSASSIN PRIESTS!
The Featured Fact

The black patch over Domino's left eye is not a fashion choice — it is a brand, shared by exactly two survivors of Project Armageddon, the government program that bred children as perfect weapons. Hunting for her origins in Domino Vol. 2 #1–#4 (2003), Neena Thurman found the program still running in the Florida Everglades and met the other survivor: her younger half-brother Lazarus, a boy who could seize other people's emotions, kept in stasis and study his whole life.

Then the cavalry arrived, and it was family. The Armajesuits — fanatical quasi-priests sworn to destroy Project Armageddon's creations before one could end civilisation — stormed the base to kill Lazarus, and their leader was Beatrice, the precognitive mutant whose children the program had used, and Domino's own mother. The woman who had once smuggled baby Neena out of the project now stood ready to murder her son on doctrine.

Domino made the only call her luck would allow: she shot her mother, stopped the killing, and carried Lazarus to sanctuary with Father Boschelli, the Chicago priest who had raised her. It did not hold — Beatrice survived, and later quietly abducted Lazarus from that same church, leaving Domino with a rescued brother she no longer had, a mother she had shot, and a family tree that reads like an after-action report.

Why It's Obscure

Most origin stories end with a homecoming; Domino's ended with her choosing which relative to shoot.

The brand
Two survivors, one mark — The black patch over Domino's left eye, plainly visible in every portrait here, matches Lazarus's own — Project Armageddon's survivors carry the same brand.
2003
Domino Vol. 2 — Neena's search for her mother leads to the Everglades base, her half-brother Lazarus, and the program that made them both.
The Armajesuits
Mother knows worst — Beatrice leads the quasi-priest cult sworn to kill the project's successes — including her own son — before their powers mature.
The choice
One bullet, two relatives — Domino shoots Beatrice to save Lazarus, then hides him with Father Boschelli — who later loses him back to Beatrice.
