Today's Fact

Before X-Force, before the Six Pack, Neena Thurman drew the strangest guard duty in the NSA. Her posting was Dr. Milo Thurman, a prisoner-analyst whose gift for reading world trends let him predict future events with unsettling accuracy — valuable enough that the government kept him locked away from every foreign power that wanted his forecasts.
Guard and prisoner fell in love and married inside that arrangement. Milo, a devotee of Dante's Inferno, coined her codename from her chalk-white skin and the black spot ringing her left eye — a domino made flesh — and privately called her Beatrice, after Dante's guide through Paradise, an alias Neena still answers to.
An A.I.M. raid tore them apart, and each was left believing the other had died. Years later the cyborg Donald Pierce and Lady Deathstrike seized Milo to download his predictive mind into a computer, the story told in Domino Vol. 1 #1–3 (1997). Neena fought through Pierce's Reavers to reach him, but with more than half his memories already copied and wiped, Milo chose to die as himself rather than survive as Pierce's hard drive.
Why It's Obscure
Most codenames come from a callsign board. Hers came from a wedding — to the one man alive who could have foreseen exactly how it would end.
