DOMINO WAS A FAILED SUPER-SOLDIER EXPERIMENT — AND THE PROGRAM'S TRUE 'PERFECT WEAPON' WAS A BROTHER SHE NEVER KNEW SHE HAD!
The Featured Fact

Neena Thurman was not born into a family so much as manufactured by a program. She was one of many children produced by Project Armageddon, a clandestine government breeding effort that used the precognitive mutant Beatrice as a surrogate to engineer the perfect weapon. The children fell one after another — no mutant gene, bodies that could not withstand the testing — until a single chalk-white girl remained: Domino, whose subconscious probability field the evaluators graded a failure because mere luck was not the weapon they had ordered.

Branded with the black patch over her left eye that every test subject carried, the discarded survivor was broken out by her own mother and deposited with Father Rudolpho Boschelli at Chicago's Church of the Sacred Heart. Years later, hunting for Beatrice and answers, Domino traced the supposedly shuttered project to a still-active base in Florida in Domino Vol. 2 #1–4 (2003) — and found a boy wearing the identical eye mark.

The boy was Lazarus, her half-brother, preserved from the same program and gifted with emotion-controlling power potent enough that the project's own files treated him, not Neena, as the true result of the Perfect Weapon program. Then the reunion turned into a shooting war: Beatrice arrived at the head of the Armajesuits, a fanatical order determined to kill Lazarus before his gift matured, and Domino was forced to shoot her own mother to keep her brother alive. She sheltered Lazarus at the same Chicago church that had raised her — and Beatrice, surviving, quietly abducted him from sanctuary anyway.

Why It's Obscure

The luckiest woman alive was graded a defective product by the people who built her — and even her rescue missions come with a family discount on disaster.

Florida
Project Armageddon — A secret base in the Everglades bred mutant children toward a single specification, and discarded nearly all of them on the way.
The mark
One patch, two children — The black ring over the left eye was carried by the program's subjects; finding it on a strange boy in Florida is how Domino knew Lazarus before anyone said the word brother.
2003
The Perfect Weapon arc — Domino Vol. 2 #1–4 sends Neena back to the still-breathing project, into the reunion and the gunfight with her mother's Armajesuits.
Beatrice
Mother, twice over — The precognitive surrogate who smuggled her daughter out of the program returned leading the cult sworn to murder her son.
