Today's Fact

Reed Richards founded a team to solve every problem in the world, and his daughter staffed it with the family's oldest enemy.

DOOM JOINED THE FANTASTIC FOUR'S OWN TEAM — AND TRADED HIS GREEN CLOAK FOR WHITE!
The Featured Fact

When Reed Richards replaced the Fantastic Four with the Future Foundation — a coalition of brilliant young minds meant to solve the world's problems — his daughter Valeria made the most outrageous recruitment call in the Baxter Building's history. In FF Vol. 1 #1 (2011) she travelled to Latveria and invited Doctor Doom himself to join, over the protests of nearly everyone who had ever been punched by him.

Doom needed the Richards family as much as they needed him. An attack by the Intelligencia had left the smartest tyrant alive with his intellect damaged, so Valeria struck a bargain: Doom would lend his genius against the threat of the Council of Reeds, and Reed would help restore the mind Doom had lost. He accepted, took his seat among the heroes, and swapped his signature green cloak for the Foundation's white.

The membership ended the only way a Doom membership could. After fighting beside the Foundation and standing against the Mad Celestials, Doom was presumed lost — until he surfaced among the Council of Reeds' captives, claimed a stray Infinity Gauntlet, and founded a Parliament of Doom out of his own enslaved variants. The white cloak was a chapter, not a conversion.

Why It's Obscure

Plenty of villains have infiltrated hero teams undercover; Doom joined openly, by invitation, with his name on the door.

FF #1 — Valeria Richards invites Doom to join the Future Foundation, and the Fantastic Four's archenemy accepts a seat on Reed Richards's own team.
The bargain
A mind for a mind — Brain-damaged by the Intelligencia, Doom trades his help against the Council of Reeds for Reed and Valeria's help restoring his intelligence.
The uniform
Green out, white in — Doom's Future Foundation livery, the white hooded cloak over his armour in the first portrait below, replaced the most famous green cloak in comics for the length of his membership.
The exit
Parliament of Doom — Presumed dead after the Mad Celestials, Doom instead inherits the Council of Reeds' prison, an Infinity Gauntlet, and an army of his own variants.
