Today's Fact

Stranded in Camelot beside his enemy, Doom skipped the sightseeing and went straight to the most dangerous tutor in Britain.

DOOM WENT TO CAMELOT TO SIT AT MORGAN LE FAY'S FEET — AND PAID HER WITH AN ARMY OF THE DEAD!
The Featured Fact

When a sabotaged time platform hurled Iron Man and Doctor Doom into the age of King Arthur in Iron Man Vol. 1 #149–#150 (1981), the two enemies were stranded guests at Camelot — and Doom wasted no courtesy calls. He pried the whereabouts of Morgan le Fay from a serving girl's mind, rode to her castle alone, and asked the half-faerie sorceress to teach him her magic, adding her lessons to training he had already taken from mystics across the centuries, Cagliostro among them.

Morgan named her tuition fee without blinking: Doom would command her army against Arthur. She raised that army herself — every soldier Excalibur had ever killed, resurrected from a fragment of the blade — and Doom led the dead against Camelot in full armour, a Latverian monarch generaling a sixth-century graveyard for the sake of a few private lessons.

The arrangement collapsed when Iron Man confronted Morgan directly and her spells slid off his technology twice; baffled by a magic she could not name, she vanished, and her army crumbled with her. Doom got his education cut short, his grudge against Stark sharpened, and a working relationship with Morgan that later centuries — and later visits through time — kept reviving.

Why It's Obscure

Most tyrants collect armies first and knowledge later; Doom reversed the order and let the army be the school fee.

1981
A classroom in Camelot — Iron Man #149–#150 strands Doom in Arthur's Britain, and his first free act is to hunt down its strongest living sorceress.
The tutor
Lessons from Morgan le Fay — Doom had already studied under mystics like Cagliostro across time; Morgan's dark Avalon magic was the next line on his curriculum.
The fee
An army for an education — Morgan resurrects every warrior Excalibur ever slew, and Doom leads them against Camelot as payment for her teaching.
The walkout
Science baffles sorcery — When Morgan's magic fails twice against Iron Man's armour, she abandons the field entirely, ending both the battle and Doom's lessons.
