DOOM SWAPPED BODIES WITH DAREDEVIL — AND DAREDEVIL NEARLY STARTED A WAR AS DOOM!
The Featured Fact

Doom once decided the best way to kill the Fantastic Four was to become a blind lawyer. After an exhausted Daredevil finished fighting the Trapster, Doom captured him, hauled him to the Latverian Embassy in New York, and strapped him into a machine of his own invention — the Body-Transferral Ray — in Daredevil Vol. 1 #37 (1968). In minutes, Victor von Doom's mind occupied Daredevil's body, and Matt Murdock woke up inside Doom's.

The plan was infiltration: wearing the face of a trusted hero, Doom would walk straight up to the Fantastic Four and strike. What Doom had not planned for was a tenant. Locked in a dungeon in Doom's body, Matt simply started using it — Doom's guards obeyed his orders without question, and Matt got on the radio to Latveria's ministers and, in Doom's voice of absolute authority, ordered them to declare war on all four of Latveria's neighbouring countries at once.

Doom heard his own kingdom being marched into suicide on the radio and had no choice: he raced back to the embassy and reversed the swap himself, because only Doom could countermand Doom. Matt then smashed the transferral machine to scrap before walking out a free man. The aftershocks — a Fantastic Four who now believed Daredevil was Doom in disguise — rolled straight into Fantastic Four #73 (1968).

Why It's Obscure

Doom has stolen the powers of gods. His most humiliating defeat of the sixties came from a prisoner who weaponised Doom's own org chart against him.

1968
A Lee and Colan two-parter — Daredevil #37–38 (1968), by Stan Lee and Gene Colan, with the fallout continuing in Fantastic Four #73.
THE RAY
Doom-branded mad science. His Body-Transferral Ray swapped minds between two glass cylinders — built in secret inside the Latverian Embassy in New York.
WAR BY RADIO
The counterattack was paperwork. Trapped in Doom's body, Matt did not punch anything; he issued orders — and Doom's own chain of command carried them out.
SMASHED
No sequel machine. Once back in his own body, Daredevil destroyed the ray outright, cancelling Doom's infiltration plans for the foreseeable future.
