Today's Fact
For one glorious afternoon Wade Wilson was the God of Thunder. The invoice for that afternoon reads: one forged hammer, one hidden original, one extremely smug trickster.
The con began with family. Loki, disguised as a scientist, convinced Deadpool that the God of Mischief was his long-lost father — and that Wade's birthright was a place in the Asgardian pantheon, starting with Thor's hammer. In Deadpool Vol. 2 #37 (2000), Wade helped spring the trap: Thor was separated from Mjolnir past the sixty-second limit, reverted to mortal paramedic Jake Olsen, and Deadpool scooped the hammer off the ground.
Lightning answered. Wade transformed into a caped, wing-helmeted Thor and spent his godhood exactly as responsibly as anyone predicted — carnival strength games, a baseball stunt, and announcing himself to a deeply unconvinced Justice. Meanwhile Olsen could not understand why the hammer in his hands would not make him Thor, because it was not a hammer problem at all: Loki had concealed the real Mjolnir and let Wade carry a working forgery.
Wade turned on his supposed father, rescued Olsen and Lady Death, and asked the question that ends every Deadpool story worth telling: could he keep it? Thor answered by pounding him with both hammers. Wade's worthiness was never tested that day — only his gullibility, which failed at god level.
Why It's Obscure
Mjolnir stories are usually about worthiness. Wade's is about provenance — the only man ever fooled into a Thor transformation by a counterfeit.

One cover artist understood the assignment perfectly: Wade giving the hammer everything he has, and the real Thor laughing at him.
