Today's Fact
Alison Blaire spent years as the X-Men's resident pop star; nobody at Marvel ever explained the stretch where dying simply stopped working on her.
In New Excalibur Vol. 1 #1 (2006), Alison Blaire was singing in a London club when an evil counterpart of Jean Grey stopped her heart outright. Her teammates rushed the body to hospital — where Alison sat up alive, medically unharmed, with no pulse-gap anyone could account for. It was the first entry in a pattern the series would repeat without ever solving.
It happened again when Black Tom Cassidy returned for revenge on Juggernaut and one of his men shot Alison in the back during the fight in New Excalibur #6; moments later she was on her feet helping finish the battle. By New Excalibur #16 she had died and revived a third time in the same run, and the pattern followed her into X-Men: Die by the Sword, where Merlyn's forces apparently killed her once more — and once more she returned.
Writers floated labels — a secondary mutation, a mysterious resurrection factor — but no story ever confirmed any of them. A decade later, in A-Force #4 (2016), Alison herself joked to She-Hulk that she might be like a cat with nine lives, admitting she had come back from full death at least five times and still had no idea why. Marvel quietly let the thread drop, and the power simply stopped being mentioned.
Why It's Obscure
Chris Claremont planted a genuine mystery in 2006, had his characters ask the question out loud on the page, and then the book ended before anyone answered it.
