Today's Fact
Alison Blaire turns sound into light bright enough to headline arenas; her younger half-sister inherited the family gift pointed the other way.
Alison Blaire was not the only mutant in her fractured family. Her younger half-sister Lois London, daughter of Alison's mother Katherine and the abusive Nick Brown, first appeared in Dazzler Vol. 1 #20–21 (1982) as an ordinary teenager with migraines — until the night a man grabbed her on a dark street, her hands crackled with disruptive energy, and the man she touched simply stopped breathing.
Lois's gift was her sister's power inverted: where Alison converts sound into light that dazzles, Lois generates a field that tears molecular bonds apart. On inorganic matter it liquefies and disintegrates; on living flesh a glancing touch can stop a heart outright. She ran to Alison for help and Alison, fresh from her own murder trial, hid her — but the sisters lost each other, and Lois spent decades as the family secret nobody staged an intervention for.
The bill came due during Necrosha. Selene, posing as Nick Brown's secretary, groomed the guilt-ridden Lois, renamed her Mortis, and aimed her at the X-Men; her death touch killed Diamond Lil before Wolfsbane cut her down. Even then the family physics held a mercy: mutant siblings are often immune to each other's powers, and when Lois later hired Arcade and Klaw to murder Alison, her lethal hands did nothing at all to her sister — who knocked her out and carried her to Utopia for help.
Why It's Obscure
One sister was marketed as a disco miracle; the other was hidden like a scandal, and the hiding is what weaponised her.
