Today's Fact
A routine power test at a government laboratory turned into a prison break, and the only cell that could hold a man made of noise was Alison Blaire herself.
In Dazzler Vol. 1 #9 (1981), written by Danny Fingeroth, Alison Blaire reports to Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S. so its scientists can measure how much sound her body can convert into light. Sharing the facility, unknown to her, is the disembodied essence of Klaw — the murderer of Black Panther's father, reduced after earlier defeats to a mind sheltering inside his own prosthetic sonic blaster, waiting for vibrations strong enough to rebuild his body of solid sound.
Klaw tricked his way out by playing on her sympathy, and the escape attempt collapsed into a duel she could not lose. Every sonic barrage he threw simply charged her; a villain composed entirely of sound had wandered into the one opponent alive who eats sound for fuel. Alison pulled the whole of him in — his energy and his unconscious mind together — and stood there glowing past every limit the instruments had set, appalled at the thought that she had just killed a man by breathing him in.
She had not killed him, which created a stranger problem: Klaw was now a passenger. His stolen energy rode inside her for issues afterward, a reservoir of power with a personality attached, until Alison finally discharged that vast charge aboard Galactus's starship — where the vessel's alien circuitry soaked up the expelled energy and took Klaw's lurking essence with it, evicting him at last into other people's storylines.
Why It's Obscure
Most heroes defeat a sound villain with silence; Alison defeated one with digestion, then had to live with the leftovers.
