Today's Fact

A god walked into a law office and asked to buy the planet. During Secret Wars II, the omnipotent Beyonder decided he wanted to own the Earth legally, and retained Nelson & Murdock to work out how. His retainer was not a cheque: he raised sunken gold for the fee and, as a personal gesture, restored Matt Murdock's sight on the spot in Daredevil Vol. 1 #223 (1985) — the first time Matt had seen since the accident that blinded him as a boy.
Matt took one day with his eyes. He looked at the skyline he had only ever mapped by radar sense, saw the photographs of his friend Glorianna O'Breen with his own eyes, and wept at a sunset from the top of the Empire State Building. Then the lawyer in him started auditing the gift: a miracle this large, from a client this dangerous, was exactly the kind of payment that could quietly purchase his judgement.
So Matt refused the case and demanded the retainer back — all of it, including the eyesight. The Beyonder, baffled, offered to let him keep the sight as a free gift with no strings attached. Matt's answer is the most Matt Murdock sentence in Marvel history: take it back, or I will sue you. The Beyonder complied, and Daredevil went back to work blind — by his own filing, so to speak.
Why It's Obscure
Heroes get offered power every week. A blind lawyer getting offered his eyes back by a god — and serving him a legal threat instead — happened exactly once.
