Today's Fact

The cure for the Legacy Virus worked exactly once, and the price was printed on the label: a mutant life. The plague had already taken Piotr Rasputin's younger sister, and years of searching ended when Beast finally synthesised a benign strain that could wipe the malignant virus out worldwide — built from research recovered from a dying colleague's mind. The catch stopped the celebration cold: the cure would only go airborne when a mutant used his powers after taking it, and that activation would kill him.
Beast refused to pay that price and set the serum aside, intending to keep working until he found a version that cost nobody anything. Piotr quietly disagreed with the arithmetic. In Uncanny X-Men #390 (2001) he took the cure without asking anyone's permission, injected himself, and transformed into his organic steel form — the activation his teammate had warned would be fatal. The steel change supercharged the release, the benign strain spread through the atmosphere, and the Legacy Virus was eradicated as Piotr died.
His stated reasoning was the simplest entry in his whole ledger: no other family should stand where his family had stood. The man who had once left his team in grief over this same disease ended it personally, trading one life — his own, volunteered in secret — for every mutant who would otherwise have followed his sister.
Why It's Obscure
Yesterday's page covered what the virus took from Piotr; today's covers what he decided, years later, to give back to it — everything.

Comic art of Colossus in his organic steel form — the steel transformation shown in full, the very activation that released the cure — plus art of Beast, the teammate who built the serum and refused to use it. No AI imagery, nothing mislabeled.
