CABLE HAD 24 HOURS TO LIVE — SO HE TRIED TO TAKE DOWN THE AVENGERS FIRST!
The Featured Fact

When Cable clawed his way back after apparently dying at the end of Second Coming, the techno-organic virus he had held at bay for a lifetime was finally winning. In Avengers: X-Sanction Vol. 1 #1 (2011) by Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness, Blaquesmith showed him a ruined future in which the Avengers had killed Hope Summers — and gave him the prognosis that went with it: the virus had spread so deeply that Nathan Summers had roughly twenty-four hours left to live.

Cable spent his final day the only way he knew how. Reasoning that Hope could only be safe if the Avengers were removed before they could ever threaten her, he went back and hunted Earth's Mightiest Heroes one at a time, using future technology and prepared traps to capture Captain America, Iron Man, Falcon and others, imprisoning them in inhibitor rigs aboard his ship while the metal visibly consumed more of his own body with every hour.

He failed, and the failure saved him. Brought down and carried home to Utopia comatose, Cable was beyond every medicine his century or the future could offer — until Hope, acting on Blaquesmith's guidance, laid hands on him and let a flare of the Phoenix Force pass through her. The fire burned the techno-organic virus out of them both, ending an infection Cable had carried since infancy and restoring his metal arm and eye to ordinary, weakened flesh for the first time in his adult life.

Why It's Obscure

Most dying soldiers write letters home; Cable used his last day to declare war on the Avengers, and was cured by the daughter he had been trying to protect.

Ruined New Jersey
The warning — Blaquesmith found Cable in a devastated 2043 and traced the wreckage back to a single event: the Avengers killing Hope.
Twenty-four hours
The countdown — with the virus converting his body hour by hour, every trap Cable set for an Avenger was built against his own expiry time.
The captures
One by one — Captain America, Iron Man and Falcon were taken separately and held in inhibitor chairs, a solo ambush campaign run by a man visibly turning to metal.
The Phoenix cure
Burned clean — Hope's Phoenix flare annihilated the virus outright; the price was a flesh arm too weak to use and an ordinary eye where the cybernetic one had been.
