Today's Fact

Bullseye spent the Dark Reign wearing a dead hero's costume — and Norman Osborn spent it aiming him at the one person the Sentry loved.

BULLSEYE MURDERED THE SENTRY'S WIFE — THEN TOLD THE STRONGEST MAN ALIVE SHE HAD JUMPED!
The Featured Fact

Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers put Bullseye in Hawkeye's costume and sold him to the public as a hero, but the private work stayed familiar. Osborn understood that Lindy Reynolds was the Sentry's only anchor — the wife whose presence kept Robert Reynolds, and the monstrous Void inside him, halfway manageable. A grieving, unmoored Sentry was a weapon Osborn could point, so he quietly ordered Bullseye to remove her.

Bullseye took Lindy up in a helicopter, strangled her high over the ocean, and dropped her body into the sea where it would never be recovered. It was a murder with no weapon to trace, no corpse to examine and no witnesses but the killer — the perfect crime assigned to the one man who treats every assignment as a craft project. The killing stayed hidden while the Dark Avengers marched toward the Siege of Asgard.

When the Sentry demanded to know where his wife had gone, Bullseye lied to the most powerful being on the planet without blinking: Lindy had killed herself, he said — she had jumped from the helicopter over the countryside. Reynolds flew off to search for a body that was actually at the bottom of the ocean, and Osborn kept his leverage. The truth about the murder only surfaced in the reckoning retold in Dark Avengers Vol. 1 #13 (2010).

Why It's Obscure

Plenty of villains have threatened the Sentry's life; Bullseye went after the one thing that made the Sentry want to live.

The costume
Hawkeye's name — Throughout the Dark Reign Bullseye operated publicly as Hawkeye, so the Sentry's wife was killed by a man the world believed was an Avenger.
The order
Osborn's logic — Lindy's affection was the Sentry's only known weakness; removing her let Osborn exploit the widower's grief and instability.
The lie
The cover story — Bullseye claimed Lindy jumped from the helicopter over the countryside, sending the Sentry searching on land for a body dumped at sea.
#13, 2010
The exposure — Dark Avengers #13 lays out the Sentry's history and the fate of his wife, bringing Osborn's secret order into the open.
