BULLSEYE

Today's Fact

Asked to audition for a contract, he did not reach for a gun — he reached into a pocket and produced a sliver of wood.

BULLSEYE KILLED A WOMAN WITH A TOOTHPICK — THROUGH A WINDOW, FROM A HUNDRED YARDS AWAY!
The Featured Fact

Bullseye has no superhuman powers. What he has is an innate, almost supernatural gift for trajectory: anything he throws goes exactly where he intends, with lethal force. Marvel's own accounting of the feat list includes lacerating a throat with a thrown playing card, spitting his own tooth through a man's skull — and killing a person with a toothpick, thrown through a window from a hundred yards away.

The toothpick's most infamous outing came in Kevin Smith's Daredevil/Bullseye: The Target Vol. 1 #1 (2003). Hired by terrorists who wanted proof before payment, Bullseye gave them a demonstration instead: a flicked toothpick, across the distance, through glass, into a young mother who never saw anything coming. It was not a battle feat. It was a portfolio piece.

That is the real horror of the character, and why Daredevil fears a man with empty hands more than most armed killers. Disarming Bullseye is a meaningless concept — a prison cafeteria, a dentist's office, an elderly Wolverine in Old Man Logan Vol. 2 #37 (2018) beaten with bottlecaps, ketchup bottles, a toothpick and a cheese tray. Every room he walks into is already an arsenal; the toothpick is just the smallest shelf in it.

Why It's Obscure

A hundred yards, a pane of glass, and a cocktail garnish — the distance is the boast, but the object is the insult.

100 yards
The range — A football field of distance, through a window: Marvel Database's summary of his demonstrated feats lists the toothpick kill at exactly that range.
The Target, 2003
The audition — Kevin Smith's unfinished miniseries opened with the demonstration: terrorists asked for proof of skill and got a murder by toothpick as the résumé.
No powers
The fine print — None of it is mutation or serum. Bullseye's accuracy is an innate talent honed by years of practice — which means, in theory, it cannot be switched off.
Old Man Logan #37
Still doing it — In 2018 he took down a future Wolverine with bottlecaps, ketchup bottles, a toothpick and a cheese tray. The toothpick remains in the rotation.
