Today's Fact
Doom stole the treasure, so T'Challa salted the earth it came from — every mine, vault and circuit on the planet at once.
Doctor Doom won Doomwar's heist outright: he cracked Wakanda's vibranium vault — its final lock a purity test judged by the Panther God Bast herself, who let him pass because Doom genuinely believed only his rule could save humanity — and walked away with 10,000 tons of processed vibranium. He then did what Wakanda never had, weaponising the metal's hidden talent for amplifying mystical energy into armour that linked him to every particle of vibranium on Earth.
T'Challa's counter was not a bigger weapon; it was an off switch. Using shadow physics, his own blend of quantum science and ancient alchemy, he had prepared an alchemical reconfiguration that would strip vibranium of its exotic properties entirely. Doom's armour, connected to all the vibranium in the world, became the perfect transmitter: in Doomwar #6 (2010) T'Challa triggered the signal through it and rendered every piece of processed vibranium on the planet inert — ordinary, useless metal.
The price was Wakanda itself. Vibranium was the foundation of the nation's wealth, technology and independence, and T'Challa switched it off knowing exactly what it would cost, with no throne and no powers at the time. Shuri's verdict on the scene became the story's epitaph: Doom said he had destroyed his people, and she answered that he had saved them. Wakanda spent the years that followed rebuilding an economy with no miracle metal underneath it.
Why It's Obscure
Most kings defend the national treasure; this one deleted it from the periodic table to keep it out of a tyrant's hands.
